Well, first comment would be that what you call a diffuser and what I call a diffuser are obviously not one and the same as what I call a diffuser doesn't involve any bending of airflows.

Second comment would be that yes, you should increase the volume as per instructions but to account for the pressure drop due to the bends (whatever they may be, I'm not following you on them!) you could just reduce the Cv of the valve a bit. How much? Dunno, depends on a lot of things, obviously. Not perfect, but as good as you're going to get with the sim.
