If you are tearing off the fins, either you are accelerating the the nerf way too fast or the fins are catching on something. To slow down the acceleration, put more dead air volume between the valve and the nerf to absorb the shock of that air wave coming out of the valve. Or, slow down the valve opening speed. If you increase the dead air volume, you will lose efficiency, ie. use more CO2 per shot, but not much. Also, if you slow down the acceleration, then you might need to lengthen the barrel to regain and lost fps and you might have to, again, use more CO2. What you are trying to do is take a very sharp WHAM! of a gas shock wave and make it into a whoosh of a gas push. In a perfect world that whoosh will have played out as the nerf leaves the barrel.
