What about a reaction releasing CO2

I agree that hairspray is a bad idea. But what about the reaction which releases CO2 and water? There would be no fire, no explosion, just pressurized CO2. This could be controlled with a pressure relief valve, just like CO2 from a canister. It has its advantages in that the precursors are solid and liquid, more dense, compact, and easy to store.
