Scrap the kill plate.

Otherwise, it's just Junkyard Wars Tank Battle in a parking lot with everyone trying to get the angle on the plate. Back into a corner takes away the shot.

Shoot paintballs, 25 balls max per shot. Five breaks anywhere on the tank take it out. Only two break? You have to shoot it again and meanwhile the tank is still alive.

For those with nerfs, I'd say any hit makes the kill. Bounces off the ground or nearby structures into the tank don't count. But, the ref has to see it! Never liked nerfs. Nerfs are bad. Don't use Nerfs. This is PAINTBALL! ;-)

Speed limit still a must. Don't want Van based tanks running over lawn mower tanks at 30mph. BTW, do you know how BIG! a Ford Van is from the seat of a golf cart?
