From the production of live streaming tournament video to player and team profile documentaries, Patrick Spohrer of Monkey With A Gun has made a name for himself as a leading producer/director in the world of paintball.

As an accomplished surf and ski filmmaker and cinematographer in the 1990s, Spohrer offered up a production of a team video as a prize in a local paintball tournament. The team that won the prize was “The Family.” Spohrer was quickly hooked on paintball and began playing nationally as part of The Family, along side Frank, Suzie, Keely and Ryan Watson.

Paintball - Thomas TaylorShooting both video and motion picture film at tournaments, Spohrer teamed up with Bryon Beninni of the Ironmen to produce PUSH, a documentary that set the high-mark for what paintball videos could be. Production of PUSH spanned two seasons, introduced new music to the paintball scene, and told the tale of the end of an era in tournament paintball in such a compelling way that grown professional paintball players were moved to tears at a preview showing during the 2000 Chicago Open.

Ppaintball - Konstantin FederovUSH was followed by Sunday Drivers and the formation of a new production company. Spohrer and his wife, Bonnie launched Monkey With A Gun as a joint effort, his production skills combining with her business management and sales experience to produce new films including Cereal Killerz and Hereoes For A Day.

Monkey With A Gun also became the vehicle for live video coverage of the pro games at Paintball Sports Productions tournaments. Although live video involves and entirely different skill set than documentary production, Spohrer flowed easily into the new medium, with his experience and understanding of the game shaping the look and feel of the productions.

paintball - Duder - Justin SummersAt the PSP 2009 Paintball World Cup, Monkey With A Gun provided the debut showing of its newest release Cereal Killerz 2.

Like the original Cereal Killerz, CK2 doesn't follow a team or flow of events, instead it is a series of biographies. Each of the players featured in CK2 talks about their background in paintball – how they got started, what they are doing, and where they are going – in their own words. Then comes the action – fast paced, and perfectly photographed moving images, set to a driving sound track of music from up and coming bands.

paintball - Travis LemanskiCereal Killerz 2 makes use of stunningly clear slow-motion. Spohrer achieved this through the use of specialized cameras shooting at a rate of 500 frames per second - 21 times faster than a standard motion picture camera – so that the movement could be slowed dramatically while still maintaining fluid movement and sharp focus.

paintball - Travis LemanskiFeatured on Cereal Killerz 2 are Lucian Blackburn, Konstantin Federov, Brian “LB” Fow, Angel Fragoza, Ryan Greenspan, Tyler Humphry, Travis Lemanski, Brandon Mayo, Justin “Duder” Summers, and Thomas “Troll” Taylor. DVD Extras include a segment on Nicky Cuba, a full-auto bonus of Travis Lemanski, and a profile of Bay Root Productions, as well as promotional clips for the DVD's sponsors.

Cereal Killerz 2 is packaged in a fold-out case, with a book of portraits of the featured players. It is available in select paintball dealers and via the online store at PBNation.com.
