PNN and United States Paintball League sign Partnership Agreement:
Offers proprietary game format to help boost attendance at playsites
and attract broadcast media.
HILLSBORO, NH--Paintball News Network, Inc., (PNN) announced today that it has signed a definitive marketing partnership with the United States Paintball League (USPL).
In an aggressive attempt to increase the marketing value of the sport of paintball, PNN and USPL will work together, along with PNN’s corporate partners on tournament series initiatives and field promotions, designed to increase traffic, boost paint and product sales revenue, and to build a larger database of paintball fans for participating playsites throughout the United States.
We believe the USPL format will help increase spectator traffic at paintball events because it provides a way for the mainstream public to watch the action on the field, so they can see that paintball is an enjoyable sport.”, explains Rene A. Boucher, managing editor of Paintball News. “Fields are no longer marketing just to players, they are also marketing to anyone who may be interested in watching the action.”, he said.
The USPL owns a patent-pending format that is designed specifically to attract spectators and the broadcast media. “The patent gives us the ability to offer fields something that no one has offered them before”, said Steve Davidson, president of USPL. “We are providing the playsites with the opportunity to control and increase the market value of competition paintball. We are very excited about our relationship with PNN and consider it to be a tremendous opportunity to help playsites in their efforts to promote paintball as a serious sport.”, he said.
The USPL will offer a field licensing program to PNN Members which will allow the location to utilize the USPL proprietary format. Licensed playsites will have exclusive use to the format within a protected geographic territory. The License offers the opportunity to host USPL format events. The USPL also has a League licensing program which allows existing leagues to use the format during their regular playing season and is coordinated with the USPL events for qualifying purposes.
“The PNN/USPL year 2000 Calendar of Events will include a Tournament
of Champions event.”, said David “Hutch” Hutcherson, vice president of
partnership marketing for PNN. “The first place teams from all 1999 league,
series, and major national tournaments will be invited to compete in the
first ever paintball international championships, which we are actively
pursuing for television broadcast”, Hutcherson explains. “Providence,
RI, based Duffy and Shanley, Inc., who works with ESPN X-Games, will head
all efforts to market the tournament for broadcast.”, he said.
“Our relationship with PNN is the most exciting thing that has ever
happened to the USPL.”, said Biff Thiele, co-founder of the USPL who is
in charge of USPL Operations. “For Steve and I, our objectives have always
been to work with the industry and with huge outside corporate support,
which is now a reality, to advance the game of paintball into the sport
of paintball.”, he
said.
The USPL rules and field diagram will be viewable on the USPL website
www.paintballleague.com and www.unitedstatespaintball.com which is hosted
on Warpig.com, the world-wide web’s #1 paintball resource and will be
available by the end of the month of November.
In addition to the USPL, PNN also has established national marketing partnership agreements with The Coca-Cola Company, Fuji Photo Film, USA, Inc., MCI WorldCom, Pro Team Products, Inc., and Gold Cup Paintball.
