Mardi Gras Open 2001 

In the shadows of the largest party in the world….amidst the thousands of party goers who will crowd the streets of the “Big Easy”... comes a paintball event like no ...the Diablo Mardi Gras Open.

Hardcore sports is proud to present, in association with Diablo Direct, the 2nd annual Diablo Mardi Gras Open five man tournament.  On February 16-18, 2001, teams from all over the world will once again descend on historic New Orleans at the onset of the Mardi Gras celebration, for what is sure to be one of the most talked about tournaments of the year.  The John A. Alario Event Center, located in scenic Bayou Segnette State Park and just minutes from the rustic French Quarter will once again serve as the venue for the Diablo Mardi Gras Open event.  This years competition will include something for everyone, including four player classifications, Open, Amateur, Novice and Rookie.  “Open Class” (formerly pro) and “Rookie” teams will play in separate divisions, playing only teams of their own classification.  The Amateur and Novice classes will once again be mixed for the preliminary round but will be separated into their own semi finals and finals.  New for the event this year will be the one-on-one “Sheridan Showdown” sponsored by Sheridan Paintball which will be held in the grandstands on center court of the state of the art 
Alario Center.  The winner of the "Showdown" goes home with a Sea-Doo GS jetski complete with trailer.  Another addition to the 2nd Annual Diablo Mardi Gras Open will be the Warped Sportz/WDP Target Shoot with the winner taking home an LCD Dark Angel along with some cool gear from Warped Sportz and WDP.

At last years Mardi Gras Open, over $100,000 in cash & prizes were awarded to 24 placing teams in the event including 60 markers!  The upcoming Diablo Mardi Gras Open will be even better, with a prize package estimated to eclipse $150,000.  The winners of this years “Open" and "Amateur" divisions will receive 5 Bombardier Inc.© “Sea • Doo” jet ski watercraft.  Top finishers in the Novice and Rookie divisions will also walk away with top notch prizes as well including:

• 10 - MatriX' (by Diablo) • 5 - KAPP Autocockers - (by KAPP) 
• 5 - Free Flow Custom Autocockers - (by Pro Paintball)

This years event will also feature a first class trade show and will include manufacturer tech classes from the likes of WDP, Center Flag, Matrix tech classes and more.  Novice and Rookie teams are invited to come out early on the 15th for Avalanche 101, where members of one of paintballs top pro teams will be giving instructional courses and when they are done with that they will join the likes of Joy Division and several other top teams to officiate.

As if the tournament was not enough...there's Mardi Gras.  The 24 hour a day party that last for three weeks in the French Quarter of New Orleans..beads, babes and balls.
