PRESS RELEASE:
FROM: THE ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY INDIAN PAINTBALL CLUB
TO: ALL RELIVENT MEDIA
As paintball comes out of the obscure and more and more into the mainstream it is only fitting that intercollegiate clubs and teams would form on the campuses of colleges and universities across the country. Such has happened this semester at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
17 members of the Arkansas State University community have come together to for the Arkansas State University Paintball Club. The group has taken care of all the necessary requirements and hopes to be approved as an officially recognized campus club in the spring semester 1999. As far as research could tell the group will be the first such group to form in the state, although many paintball clubs exist at universities across the country. Schools like Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, UNLV, Oregon, and many many more all have such groups.
The club also plans to field a team, The ASU Indian Paintball Team.
The team plans to compete on the national level of paintball. Plans
as of now including representing the State of Arkansas, the community of
Jonesboro, and Arkansas State University in the Mardis Gras Open in February,
on 3 legs of the Pan American Paintball Circuit, in competition for the
World Paintball Federation crown, and finally the Spring and fall intecollegiate
championships.
Costs for participation in these events will be over $30,000.
The group will be seeking sponsorships and donations to help defray the
costs of their participation in these events from the surrounding community,
the state, and nationally. The
organization has already secured sponsorship from O'neall Racing to
help in obtaining team uniforms but there still is a long way to go.
Parties interested in sponsorship or in membership in the organization
may contact them through their address at PO Box 5057, State University,
AR 72467, email address arkansasstatepaintball@yahoo.com, or view the website
