October 2002 Paintball Sports Promotions regrets the decision of Warped Sportz to forgo attendance at the 2002 Paintball World Cup because they want to display midgets, have cage dancing and serve alcohol. They also claim to have considered the possibly of inviting Unwritten Law to a "huge free concert". It should be noted, however, that at no time did Warped Sportz contact Paintball Sports Promotions with respect to these plans. The policy on liquor and lewd behavior has been in existence for less than four weeks. It would seem to us that these grandiose schemes of Warped Sportz would have required planning that would have to have begun months ago. We are sorry that the representatives of Warped Sportz are unable to discern lewd behavior. We believe that promoting one's products by having naked women commit acts that would have resulted in their arrest in all 50 states, as was the case at the Campaign Cup in England in September of this year, would qualify. Paintball is growing. More families with small children are attending our events. Companies, such as Disney, are beginning to view paintball in a serious and favorable light. We are subject to greater scrutiny by applicable governmental agencies. We have to act, as an industry, in a manner that takes the foregoing into account and does not jeopardize our tournaments, our sport or the growth of our industry. Hopefully, Warped Sportz will understand the significance of our policy as it relates to the protection and growth of our industry. Until they do, however, we must with regret wish them well and move ahead without their presence or support. [Editor's Note: In response to this press
release,, Warped Sportz has e-mailed WARPIG.com, and a number of other
media sources stating that Warped Sportz "[has] never even SET FOOT in
Europe to vend or promote [their] product." Warped Sportz wished
to clarify that whatever lewd behavior did or did not occur at the Campaign
Cup was not associated with their company.]
