Challenge Park Xtreme Hosts Tony Hawk to play for ESPN Show
August 1, 2002

Challenge Park Xtreme was the preferred site for skateboarding Superstar Tony Hawk and his Gigantic Skatepark Tour to take a break, relax and play paintball. Along with Tony on the tour were several other extreme sports stars including Dave Mirra, Mike Escamilla, Bucky Lasek, Willie Santos, Kevin Staab, Mike Vallely and many others. The Tony Hawk Gigantic Skatepark Tour is arguably the most successful skatepark tour in the world.

The tour, which is sponsored by ESPN and others, is hitting sold out skateparks across the country in 2002. Tony and his ESPN production crew are filming the tour for his ESPN2 television show, which will air in late summer 2002, and in reruns in the fall of 2002. The show will feature the extreme sports superstars playing paintball in a segment. Other footage may be used for a best of tour show that will air in early fall 2002. Air date schedules to be announced soon.

The tour needed a break and with the help of Mat Hoffman, Challenge Park Xtreme convinced them to stop and play paintball for the television show and some stress relief. “As the tour moved into the Midwest, the guys were getting tour bus fever and needed a chance to relax and blow off some steam. Challenge Park Xtreme was the perfect solution,” explained tour manager Bruno Musso.

JT USA sponsored the games, outfitting the superstars in JT jerseys, gloves, goggles, and 3.5 markers that the guys got to take home with them. They played on Armageddon and Bedlam and had a blast. Many vowed to return to Challenge Park Xtreme soon, some to participate in the William Shatner Charity Big Game, others to play more paintball.

Challenge Park Xtreme is the world’s first extreme sports theme park, located just outside Chicago. The $8 million facility, situated on 150 acres, features paintball, BMX racing, skateboarding, Mountain Biking and other extreme-related sports.
