Ballahpalooza coming to the Northwest
by Bill Mills

Ballahpalooza has been quietly brewing in the Northwest, under the radar of most paintball media.  Paintfeenz, Inc. a new promoting group consisting of tournament paintball players who hit the field in jerseys with team 24/7, is planning Ballahpalooza.

This new music and paintball festival will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds, near Portland Oregon.  Through the event, live music with bands including Digital Underground, and numerous northwest local bands.  Rave style DJs will also be spinning vinyl in their own style.

Due to the timing and location of Ballahpalooza, it will draw the attention of more than paintball and music fans.  It is being held immediately adjacent to the Portland Rose Festival Airshow, one of the largest airshows in the western United States.

An indoor trade show adjacent to a beer garden featuring regional microbrewed beers, that promises to provide a player’s party that is a step above what paintballers are used to.

Paintfeenz is also lining up an all-star staff to run the tournament.  Dan Bonebrake, retired pro player from Avalanche and promoter of the Pan Am Circuit will oversee the tournament games, and the referees include pro players from the Ironmen - Micah McGlocklin, Matt Marshall, Yoshi Rau, Brian Ravenel, James "JT" Bouchard.  Also serving as referees will be some of the top amateur players in the US, from the Naughty Dogs - Rocky Knuth, Brian M,Troy Kessel, Joey Mendoza, Corey Field, Raymond Knuth, Justin Kimball, Chris Dyerson.  Additionall referrees will come from 24/7 and Cartel.

While the tournament’s brackets – 3 player Young Guns, 5 player Women’s, and 5 player rookie, novice and amateur, are common, the prize packages put together for Ballahpalooza are not.  By tying in mainstream sponsors like Carnival Cruise lines, Rockstar energy drink and local radio stations, Paintfeenz is offering a prize package that includes 7 day tropical cruises for the winning amateur team.

As the event has not drawn much pre-event publicity, initial registration has been low, meaning that that do get on board will have a better shot at the prizes.  The Young Guns and Women's divisions feature free entry, with a $10 air fill fee, and all players (except for Young Guns which must have a birth certificate copy to verify age) must have Pan Am player ID cards, or purchase a temporary ID at the event.

Teams in the northwest can find the full registration information and get tied in before the fast approaching deadline, at www.ballahpalooza.com.
