A ball detente is the part of a paintgun that keeps you from feeding more than one paintball into the marker when the bolt is open. For instance, if you shoot an Automag (or any open bolt marker), the ball detente will hold the ball in the breech from rolling forward and letting another ball feed when the marker is pointed downward. It works the same way with closed bolt markers, but it's not much of a problem when the bolt is fully closed, as I'm sure you can imagine. Hope this helps.
