When it is timed perfectly you ALSO feel a puff of air in the chute. It is the air going IN. You can't reliably tell if it is sucking or blowing back by holding your hand over the chute.

Without the TP test you can't tell which way the puff is going. In or Out.

I use a ball of TP about 1/4 in diameter. When I fire it, the ball chute is horizontal or even trying to roll out slightly. No point is letting gravity feed the TP into the chute. You can pull and hold the trigger which holds the bolt open.

When you fire it is sucked in or blown out.

With a stock, unported barrel, I have seen the paper sucked in and travel down the barrel and exits out the muzzle. Usually you have to fire a second time to get the TP to shoot out the barrel.
