Yes. If you have a paintgun with a backbottle configuration (not very common anymore) or a vertical CO2 bottle, the vibration of the hammer in the receiver will resonate through the tank making a loud "ping" sound. A tank cover will help muffle that from happening. Other solutions are moving the tank to a bottom line or remote (I moved the bottle on my Stingray off of the back bottle ASA and the gun got much quieter).

Also, there is a greater chance that a paintball will bounce off the tank cover, than off of the tank, and it will protect the paint on the tank from scratching off.

It depends how much you shoot wether the cover will cause noticable problems, but it won't help if you're having problems.
