: : When you ask which is better, a 98 or a Spyder on a Tippmann message boards, anyone could tell you what everyone is gonna say. GO FOR THE TIPPMANN! : Wow man, thanks for all that info you gave me. That clears up all questions. Too bad I didn't ask what most people would say, I asked which gun is a better buy, and obviously you couldn't come up with an answer for it. I think TippSnip98 was trying to say the M98 is the better buy. Instead of berating him with sarcasm, it would have been better to ask him to clarify his decision. You're probably debating whether the stock Tippman is better than the TL+. The Tippmann 98(or m98) simply is made better, is more durable, and outperforms any spyder out there. The 98 also has the fastest trigger pull in its class. The only immediate upgrade I would suggest would be a new barrel.
Here's why the 98 is a better buy:
-You'll spend less time and money maintaining it and will spend more time playing with it.
-you won't have to worry about cutting springs, getting aftermarket bolts, finding drop forwards with spyder mounting holes...out of the box, the 98 can easily go toe to toe with any upgraded spyder.
- Spyder upgrades have a tendancy of being...useless. There's so many of them out there, and most people think you need to have them ALL. Example: a buddy of mine bought a low pressure chamber for his spyder. Nice, isn't it? Too bad it's useless unless you're setup for low pressure. And that requires a regulator, nitro, ($$$) etc. With a 98, you have the option of using Tippmann's Proshop service. They will upgrade your gun with an entire kit if you want. You don't even have to buy all the parts from them. And that leads me to my next point...
-Tippmann service. It's the best. I've done some pretty stupid things to my Carbine, yet when I sent it to Tippmann, I was only charged for shipping. Had I gotten the neccessary parts from the local shop, it would have cost $30+.
-Spyders tend to be really...how shall I say it...poorly made. Plus they're in metric for cryin out loud.
hope this helps.
