: i don't mean to bring this up again but where can i find the article/story about the "fire" in some kids tank??? it has been eating at me forever i am gonna have to ask some questions about the reasoning on how it ignited. i really do't think it could happen - i need to be convinced.

: thanks, john

A diesel engine injects fuel into the cylinder and then compresses it at 20 or 30/1 and it ignites. When you put oil in a fill nipple and fill the tank the oil is sprayed into the tank. If the tank is empty, after filling to 4500psi you have a compression of 300/1 (even though it doesn't get as hot because it is compressed slower, and the factor of only the air already in the tank is compressed).

So, it's possible but not common. It only takes a few minutes to drain the tank, clean/lube the fill o-ring and reassemble - so why not?
