If you can afford it, foam core fiber glass is something to consider. It's quite possibly the strongest and lightest practical solution for this. It also give you some real freedom with the design. Todd Meyer of the Gryphonians wrote up an excellent guide to it that I've got posted over at Armored Fist here: http://www.armoredfistpaintball.com/Todd_Meyer_fiberglass-tips.htm

Actually the entire Tank Tips section over at Armored Fist has quite a lot of good stuff by several tankers along with some links to other sources of info.

One thing I have to say about fiber glass though from my own recent and ongoing experience, it's better to work inside a place like a garage than out in the backyard. I've had a few bugs incorporated into my lastest project. ..sigh.. Had to put the canopy back up.

As for netting we like to use netting along with lexan. Unfortunately that type of setup takes up a lot of space and isn't really suitible for a golf cart.

The visibility is absolutely critical for more reasons than just the demo guys, you never know when someone is going to pop out from under a rock in front of you. Also the insurance generally requires 360 degree visibility.

Don't be afraid to go up against those guys down in Florida either. Don't expect to beat them though but it's probably the fastest way to learn how to use a PAV. After all it's only paint and some nerfs from time to time. If do wind up in Florida and you get tired of getting taken out quickly put on some ref-oflage and act as a tank ref. It'd be a great way of really seeing and learning a lot.
