I took some alluminum window screen and streached it accross a frame aproximately 3 foot by 2 foot. I held it in place with 4 C-clamps at the corners. I then shot it with my paintball gun set at 285 fps. Almost every shot went through the screen. I was going to stop my test untill I could get some different screen, but an employee convinced me to try it anyway. I took the same screen, already damaged by paintballs, and shot my 1 1/2" round at it. It chronoed at 225 fps, I was standing 10 feet away. The Projectile BOUNCED! Once again proving that the extra surface area helps make it safer. It did, however do some damage. The screen had about a 6" rip where I had clamped it to the frame. I'm sure another shot would have gone through. I moved the clamp to a good part of the screen and shot again with the same results. The projectile bounced, but the screen ripped at the clamp. I think if the screen was properly fastened to a wooden frame (wrapped around a 2X2) that it would have done much better. Now, I need some help. Obviously you guys aren't using aluminum screen on your tanks cause it won't stop a paintball. So, what are you using? Should I just go to a lumber yard and try different screen materials? Or, are you all using paintball netting? |
