The game is actually played in Wyndotte, Oklahoma which is in the NE corner of OK near the Missouri and Arkansas border. I was really impressed with their field. I think it's over 500 acres - fields, pastures, creeks, and very tough rocky hills. For the Normandy Omaha beach landing there is actually a water landing involving over 450 Americans and their Allies. There are dozens of tanks, mortars, law rockets, flame throwers - it's amazing. While the beach landing is going on another 1000 people of the 82nd and 101st Airborne land behind German lines. Then there are the 1500+ Germans. The units are setup to re-enact WW2. Their website is Oklahomadday.com Yes,a lot of people come back each year and join the same unit. There is a lot of concern this year that some rogue american leaders are going to change the plan (script). Probably change the areas that they will attack. We always know when and where they are going to attack. so it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to change it up. The beach area is a bitch for them - just like real WW2. So they may just make a half hearted attempt at it and some of the other stuff like St. Lo. I don't expect them to make their plans public here but we Germans will be ready no matter what. We have some good leaders in the Baron, Bill Bailey and others. The actual game is Sat-Sun just like most scenario games but there are events going on all week - sniper classes, leadership classes, mini-scenario games, training. It's agreat game if you can make it. |
