Hi,

Here's my two cents worth, on why turnouts overall have dropped.

1. There only used to be one promoter doing
scenarios. No, not Wayne Dollack, but the field he usede to play on, up in Ocala. Now there are
how many self described sceanrio promotors, running around yelling hey, come to my game. That wouldn't be so bad if they only held one local event, but when you have them doing 20 plus events around the country, it does cut into turnouts. The same thing happened here in FL,
when it came to Gun Shows. There used to be four or five, over the entire state, over the course of the whole year. You could easily make 2-3,000 selling almost anything. Then someone came along and said hey lets do a show a week and while we're at it, lets also raise the table rent, so we can really promote these shows. Guess what, lower turnout, lower sales, higher overhead..

2. Someone noted the drop in employment. That was a good point, but what he overlooked was the fact that there really is some growth in the job market, but it's all in the service sector, not in high tech, not in those areas that generate enough disposable income to allow someone to spend 2-300.00 overa weekend, playing paintball. Just remember this the next time you make an airline reservation, because the people doing that probably also call New Delhi, Bangalore, or Calcutta home.
3. Lack of good quality general staff officers. Yeah, it's tough to find a player who wants to spend his weekend buried in some bunker, playing general, while the rest of his team is having all the fun.
4. Lack of willing, knowlegable team players. Far too many people today want to be the 'star', not a team player. Whatever happend to making a plan, then carrying it out as planned? Aymore its lets all just charge down there and shoot everyone we see.
Poor judging. Sure, it's cheaper to comp some poor kids in as part time players, part time judges, but then you get what you pay for, or in this case you get less. Less today and less next time they announce they're going to stage End Of The World XXI.

Guess that's about it from here. Thanks for letting me spend my 2 cents worth with you today.

Andy V, aka 'dorsai'
